Our final wedding for the season brought us out to Long Island at the spectacular Bourne Mansion for Allison and Matt’s wedding. I first met Allison and Matt last year for their engagement session in Highland Park. Once they saw their pictures, they asked if I would drive a bit further for their wedding.
We love to travel for weddings, so it was an honor when the couple asked us to document their special day. This was not only a destination wedding for us, but a handful of the guests traveled as well from Oregon, Nevada, Vermont, Michigan, Tennessee, Louisiana, Virginia, Florida, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Connecticut, Illinois, New Jersey and even Australia! Both Matt and Allison agreed that having family and guests from all over the same place was one of the highlights of their day.
Navigating around a new town to various locations was essential, but not a problem. We started at Allison’s sister’s apartment for some getting ready moments with the girls. Lauren’s living room was completely packed with friends and family. The junior bridesmaids were having a great time while the bridesmaids were putting together the steamer for their dresses.
Matt on the other hand, was alone in his room at the hotel getting ready. Nick, his brother, soon joined him to help with some finishing touches to his suit. The other groomsmen were hanging in the hotel lobby trying to figure out their pocket squares and having a beer and some laughs.
After the girls were all dolled up, we made a quick stop at Allison’s parents house for a couple portraits in front of the house. Then it was off to the ceremony.
The ceremony was held at Our Lady of the Snow in Blue Point, NY. It was a smaller church, but managed to accommodate all the guests nicely. The pastor was Father Rob Ketcham who is the chaplain at the high school Allison’s father teaches at. Allison and Matt both loved getting to know and working with him. He has a gentle, calm demeanor that was really pleasant all throughout the service.
The last stop for the wedding was the reception held at the Bourne Mansion. This place is epic! As soon as we drove up past the front gate, we were in awe of this place. This historical landmark boasts 205 acres of waterfront property and has been hosting weddings for over 125 years. The fountain out front was spectacular and we couldn’t wait to see what was inside..
After the family formals on the mansion’s back lawn, we spent some time with Allison and Matt for sunset formals overlooking the ocean. We had just enough time to get some beautiful moments before it was time to start the party inside the enormous ballroom.
Another highlight of the their day was getting to dance with everyone. For a Sunday night, this crowd did not hold back! There were people of all ages out on the dance floor. Alli and Matt’s first dance was to “It Had To Be You” by Harry Connick Jr. Allison is a dance teacher at Aquinas, so it was no surprise that she has some fancy moves, but when Matt was able to keep up, all the guests couldn’t believe their eyes. Allison kept Matt practicing before the big day, even on the night before! The second slow dance for the couple included a nice surprise as Matt’s cousin Christina sang “Make You Feel My Love” by Adele. She did a beautiful job and Matt and Allison continued on dancing into the night.
We were so fortunate to be able to make the trek out to Long Island and document Allison and Matt’s wedding. And we thank the couple for sharing their day with us. It was a great way to end our wedding season with a bang!
